THE QUICK ANSWER

What is a Zoom translator?

A Zoom translator turns what people say in a Zoom meeting into subtitles in another language while they are still speaking. Zoom offers built-in translated captions on eligible paid plans, which an account admin or the host has to turn on. A browser extension such as MeeLang is the alternative when that feature isn't available to you or doesn't cover your languages.

MeeLang gives you Zoom live translation on your side of the call. Join the meeting from the Zoom web client in Chrome, choose the language you want to read, and MeeLang listens to the meeting audio in that tab, detects the spoken language automatically, and shows live translated subtitles over the call. It translates what you say as well as what others say. Other participants don't install anything, and nothing joins the meeting.

HOW IT WORKS

How to translate Zoom meetings in real time

Browser extension translating live Zoom audio into bilingual subtitle cards
  1. Install MeeLang for Chrome

Add the extension from the Chrome Web Store. You can start without signing in, a card, or a meeting bot.

  2. Join the meeting from your browser

Open the Zoom invite link in Chrome and choose “Join from your browser”. The meeting opens in the Zoom web client (app.zoom.us), where MeeLang can hear it.

  3. Choose your subtitle language

Pick the language you want to read. Subtitles appear in a full subtitle window or as compact subtitles over the meeting, and the bilingual transcript stays in your browser.

WHAT YOU SEE IN THE CALL

Follow both languages while people are still talking

Original speech and its translation stay together, so you can check meaning without losing the flow of the meeting.

TWO WAYS TO READ THE MEETING

Full subtitles or compact subtitles

Switch with one click while the meeting is running. MeeLang remembers your choice for Zoom.

Full subtitles

A floating window with the whole conversation. Each line is labeled by speaker, with the original above the translation. Scroll back through earlier lines and drag the edge to make the window wider.

SUBTITLE HISTORY

Compact subtitles

Just the current line, shown over the meeting like captions, with the original and the translation together. Drag it up or down, and style the text and background the way you like.

OVER THE MEETING

MORE THAN SUBTITLES

Built for real conversations in Zoom

Translates what you say, too

Your own speech is translated as well, so both sides of the conversation appear in the transcript. When you mute yourself in Zoom, MeeLang stops listening to your microphone.

BOTH SIDES

Speaker labels

Lines are labeled by speaker, so you can follow who said what during the meeting and filter the transcript by speaker afterwards.

AI SUMMARY

The original and the translation are saved together in your browser, not on MeeLang's servers. Search, export, or delete them at any time.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Zoom translation FAQ

Does Zoom have live translation?

Zoom offers built-in translated captions on eligible paid plans, and an admin or the host has to enable them. For Zoom live translation on any plan, MeeLang is another option: a Chrome extension that shows real-time translated subtitles for any Zoom meeting you join in the web client, whatever plan the host is on.

How do I translate Zoom meetings in real time?

Install the MeeLang Chrome extension, open the Zoom invite link in Chrome, and choose “Join from your browser”. Once you're in the meeting, pick the language you want to read and MeeLang shows live translated subtitles over the call.

Does MeeLang work with the Zoom desktop app?

Not yet. MeeLang runs inside Chrome, so it works with the Zoom web client at app.zoom.us. Join from your browser instead of the desktop app to use it.

Does the host need to enable anything?

No MeeLang setting is needed on the host's side. The only requirement is being able to join from your browser — if you don't see the “Join from your browser” link, the meeting's account may have it turned off.

Will a translation bot join my Zoom meeting?

No. MeeLang works in your browser tab and never joins the meeting as a participant, so nobody sees a translation bot in the participant list.

Is MeeLang free for Zoom meetings?

Yes, to start. You can start translating without signing in, and signing in with Google gives you free translation minutes every month, with no payment details required. If you need more, the Pro plan adds more minutes, shared across Zoom, every other supported meeting platform, and YouTube.

Which languages can I translate Zoom meetings into?

MeeLang translates into 30+ languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Vietnamese, Thai, Russian, Hindi, and Arabic. You don't need to pick the spoken language — MeeLang detects it automatically.

Does MeeLang translate what I say, too?

Yes. MeeLang translates your own speech as well as what other participants say, so both sides appear in the subtitles and the transcript. When you mute yourself in Zoom, it stops listening to your microphone.

Can I see who is speaking?

Yes. Each line in the full subtitle window and in the transcript is labeled by speaker, and you can filter the transcript by speaker later.

What is the difference between full and compact subtitles?

Full subtitles open a floating window with the whole conversation, so you can scroll back through earlier lines. Compact subtitles show only the current line over the meeting, like captions. You can switch between them with one click.

Can MeeLang summarize a Zoom meeting?

Yes. With Pro, MeeLang turns the bilingual transcript into an AI summary of what was discussed and decided, written in your language.
